How much you pay in 2026
The rate depends on the type of accommodation and the season. In an apartment or holiday home like ours, the eco-tax is around €2 per person per night in high season (1 May to 31 October) and €1.50 in low season (1 November to 30 April), on top of which there is a 10% VAT on the tax itself. Note one piece of 2026 news: a summer surcharge has been activated that raises the amount to €6-8 in June, July and August, but only in 4 and 5-star hotels; if you stay in an apartment, you pay the normal rate.

How it’s paid and who’s exempt
The eco-tax is calculated per person and per night of your stay and is normally paid at the accommodation itself or together with the booking. Children under 16 don’t pay. A simple example: two adults, 7 nights in summer in an apartment would be about €2 × 2 × 7 = €28, plus 10% VAT (around €30-31 in total for the whole stay). It’s a small amount compared with the trip, and it goes towards looking after exactly what you’re coming to enjoy: the beaches and the environment of the south.
