Stay after
Southern Mallorca faces the open sea to the west, so here the sun sets over the water: colourful sunsets with no buildings in the way. We live in Colònia de Sant Jordi and these are the favourite spots to watch it, from the easiest (the promenade itself) to the most spectacular (the Cap de ses Salines lighthouse), with the rough time by season and a few tricks.

Colònia’s promenade and port
The easiest: Colònia’s seafront promenade and port face west, so you watch the sun drop over the sea without leaving the village. Grab a drink on a terrace, sit on the rocks by the little port light and enjoy. Perfect for your first sunset or for car-free days.
Cap de ses Salines: the most dramatic
At Mallorca’s southern tip, the Cap de ses Salines has a fully open horizon and its lighthouse: it’s the area’s most spectacular sunset, with views even to the island of Cabrera. It’s about 20 minutes by car; go with time to spare, bring a layer if it’s windy and sturdy shoes for the rocks.

Es Trenc and Ses Covetes
The great beach of Es Trenc at sunset is a treat: kilometres of sand, few people at that hour and the wet sand mirroring the sky. From the Ses Covetes end the sun drops over the water. Take a last swim and stay for the dusk. See the Es Trenc guide.
Es Carbó and the coast
If you fancy something wilder and quieter, a walk along the coast towards Es Carbó gives you sunsets with no one around, just the sea and the dunes. Plan the walk back in daylight or bring a torch (your phone will do). Remember that driving in via Sa Vall is only for registered residents: you go on foot.
From the sea
Watching the sunset from the water is another level: the colour reflects all around and the coast turns golden. If you rent a boat, plan the return to port in daylight; see renting a boat without a licence. A drink on board as the sun drops is hard to beat.

Times and tips
The time shifts a lot with the season: in June the sun sets around 9:20 pm and in December around 5:20 pm; check the exact time for the day and arrive 20-30 minutes early. Don’t leave when the sun disappears: the blue hour afterwards is the loveliest for photos. And respect the dunes and the rocks. Pick the right season in the best time to visit.
