Ses Covetes beach (next to Es Trenc): access and nudist area

4 min read

When people talk about white-sand beaches next to Es Trenc, the famous one gets all the attention, but there’s an open secret among locals: Ses Covetes, a beautiful beach that many skip on their way to Es Trenc. It offers practically the same —fine sand, shallow turquoise water— but with far fewer people.

  • White sand and turquoise water between Sa Ràpita and Es Trenc.
  • Less crowded than its famous neighbour Es Trenc.
  • Ideal for families thanks to its shallow water.
  • Unofficial naturist area at the rocky end (Es Freu).
  • Within the protected Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos Natural Area.

What Ses Covetes is like

It’s about 300 m long with two distinct areas: the main one, towards Sa Ràpita, with fine sand and ideal for swimming, and Es Freu, rockier, quieter and more picturesque. Behind, the fenced-off dunes are part of the Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos Natural Area of Special Interest, which keeps the surroundings almost pristine.

Ses Covetes or Es Trenc

The advantage is obvious the moment you step onto the sand: in July and August it’s Es Trenc that gets packed, especially between 11:00 and 16:00, while at Ses Covetes you can still find your space. Mallorcans know it and choose it for exactly that reason: the same quality without the crowds. It has basic but sufficient services: sunbed and umbrella rental, a seasonal beach bar, a restaurant and a small supermarket for daily bits. If you want the full comparison, see our Es Trenc guide.

Who it’s for (and who not)

Ideal if you want…

  • The quality of Es Trenc with fewer people
  • A sandy beach for families (shallow)
  • A quiet naturist area (Es Freu)
  • A base for Cabrera, the salt flats and the walk to Es Carbó
Maybe not, if…

  • You want full, large-scale services (here they’re basic)
  • You don’t want to walk (you walk from the car park)
  • You’re after the Es Trenc postcard itself (this is its neighbour)

Getting there & parking

The easiest way is by car; the route is well signposted (same direction as Ses Salines and Colònia de Sant Jordi, about 45 min from Palma airport). Parking: there’s an area about 1 km before the village; depending on the season you may be able to park in the village itself. Note: there’s no longer a shuttle bus between the car park and the beach, so you walk the stretch from wherever you park.

Ses Covetes, with Es Trenc stretching east. You park before the village and walk to the sand.

The Es Freu naturist area

As on many beaches in southern Mallorca, at Es Freu —the rocky, less crowded part— nudism is common. It’s not an officially designated area, but naturists traditionally gather at the far end of the main swimming area, where the rocks form more secluded spots.

It’s a shallow-water beach, perfect for children; the area closest to Sa Ràpita is the most comfortable (the water is shallow and there are fewer rocks than at Es Freu). There’s little to do beyond relaxing and snorkelling, but from here you’re close to the Cabrera excursion (leaving from Colònia’s port), the Es Trenc salt flats with flamingos, and the coastal walk to Es Carbó.

It’s a protected beach: respect the dunes and the dry Posidonia on the shore (a sign the water is very clean) and stay on the marked paths. For a change of food, Colònia de Sant Jordi has good restaurants (5 Illes, Sal de Cocó) a few minutes away by car.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ses Covetes a nudist beach?

Not officially, but at Es Freu —the rocky, quieter end— nudism is common. The main sandy area, towards Sa Ràpita, is a conventional swimming beach.

Is Ses Covetes good for children?

Yes, its shallow water makes it ideal for families; the area closest to Sa Ràpita is the most comfortable.

Where do you park at Ses Covetes?

In an area about 1 km before the village (and sometimes in the village depending on the season). There’s no longer a shuttle bus, so you walk the stretch from the car park.

Local tip: park in Ses Covetes and walk into Es Trenc along the boardwalk; the real restaurants are at the end of the village, not on the sand.
