Dining by the sea

The Carrer Gabriel Roca strip and the port are where the waterfront terraces line up, boats in front and the sun dropping over the sea. In barely two hundred metres you have almost every option: El Suricata (4.9★, the best-rated in town, burgers and seafront breakfasts), Es Marisol (fish and seafood of the day on its wicker-chair terrace, 10% off for our guests), Auba Cafè (calm Mallorcan cooking, 4.5★) and, towards the port, Salicornia, Sal de Cocó and 5 Illes — the last with a table almost on the sand of Platja de s’Estany. It’s the perfect summer plan: fresh fish, a glass of local wine and the best backdrop in town, for free.

Port Blau, by the port

The best-known name on the front line is Port Blau (Carrer Gabriel Roca 67, 4.1★ with over 1,100 reviews), with a terrace and views over the sea and the boats. Its menu is Mediterranean and on the pricier side (€€€): what shines most is the rice and seafood paella — several diners rate it among the best on the island — along with salt-baked sea bass, seafood platters, artichokes with parmesan and truffle, and a fig-jam cheesecake to finish. We’ll be straight with you: on the front line you’re also paying for the location, and the odd portion falls short for the price, so go for the rice dishes and the fish. Closed Tuesdays.

What to order

Being on the coast, go for the catch of the day and seafood, a good rice (soupy or dry) and, to start, a pa amb oli or some vegetables. To know what each typical dish is, see the food guide.

Booking and sunset

A local tip: in summer, the front-row tables for dinner with the sunset are booked ahead (ideally the day before). If you can, line the dinner up with sunset time; see the sunset guide to nail the moment.

Great if you want dinner with sea views and a sunset, or a special occasion.
