Restricted in parks
South Mallorca is a gift for the camera: white sand, turquoise water, pink salt pans and a lighthouse with an open horizon. Here’s our map of landscape photography spots, with the best light for each and an important note about drones, which are restricted in the protected areas.
Data: Open-Meteo.
Es Trenc and the dunes
The south’s postcard: kilometres of white sand and turquoise water with the dunes behind. The best hour is sunrise, when the beach is empty and the light is soft; sunset from the Ses Covetes end works too. Look for lines with the wooden boardwalks and reflections at the shore. See the Es Trenc guide.
Cap de ses Salines and its lighthouse
The island’s southern tip, with its lighthouse and a fully open horizon, is the best spot for sunset, with the silhouette of Cabrera in the distance. Rocks, big sky and, with luck, clouds that catch fire. Bring a tripod for the blue hour.

The salt flats and flamingos
The Salines d’Es Trenc offer geometry and colour: ponds that mirror the sky, white mountains of salt and pink tones at sunset. And with luck, flamingos at the Salobrar (with a telephoto lens and without disturbing them). See the flamingos guide.
Turquoise coves and clear water
For the impossible blue: Es Carbó, Cala Galiota and the quiet coves, where the water over the Posidonia shifts from turquoise to indigo. Midday water is brightest; early morning is emptiest. A drone — where allowed — reveals the gradients from above.
Colònia’s port at blue hour
As evening falls, Colònia’s port and promenade turn photogenic: boats, the little lighthouse, lit lamps and a still-blue sky. The blue hour (just after sunset) gives the best tones. Pair it with the sunset guide.
Light, drones and respect
Shoot in the golden hour and the blue hour; for wild beaches, go at sunrise. Important: drones are restricted in the Es Trenc-Salobrar Natural Park and the Cabrera National Park — you need authorisation and there are no-fly areas — so check before and don’t disturb wildlife. And don’t step on the dunes or the Posidonia: that’s what makes the photo beautiful.

FAQ
What are the best photography spots in south Mallorca?
Es Trenc and its dunes, the Cap de ses Salines lighthouse, the salt flats with flamingos, the turquoise coves (Es Carbó, Cala Galiota) and Colònia’s port at blue hour.
What’s the best light?
The golden hour (sunrise/sunset) and the blue hour. For beaches, sunrise catches them empty with soft light; for the cape, sunset.
Can you fly a drone?
Carefully: in the protected areas (Es Trenc-Salobrar Park, Cabrera) it’s restricted and you need authorisation. Check first and don’t disturb wildlife.
Where do you photograph flamingos?
At the Salobrar de Campos, next to the salt flats, with a telephoto lens, at dawn or dusk and staying on the paths.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunrise for empty beaches and clean light; sunset for the Cap de ses Salines lighthouse and the salt flats. The blue hour finishes both.
