And wild coves
For beginners
The sheltered coast of Colònia de Sant Jordi, with its quiet coves and nearby islets, is a beautiful place to kayak. Here we share the best routes, where to rent (with a real village operator) and how to head out safely, whether it’s your first time or you want to paddle a little further.
Data: Open-Meteo.
Why it’s ideal here
The south has a low, sheltered coast, with clear water over Posidonia and small islets just offshore. By kayak you glide along the shore watching the bottom, slip into coves no car can reach and, if the sea is calm, get close to the islets. The water is flatter in the morning; a breeze usually picks up in the afternoon.
Where to rent or take a guided tour
In the village, Piraguas Mix (Carrer Marina 32, by the beach) rents kayaks and runs guided coastal tours, with a briefing for anyone who’s never paddled. You can go free for a few hours or join a guided outing, the easiest way to discover the best spots without getting lost.
Routes and what to see
The classic route hugs the coast eastward, dropping into quiet coves and sandy strands reachable only from the sea. With a calm sea and some experience, you can head for the islets offshore (such as Na Moltona). Bring a mask and stop to snorkel: a kayak is the best way to link swims at different spots.
Beginners and children
The sit-on-top sea kayak is very stable: it takes little to get the hang of it and, if you capsize, you climb back on easily. With a vest on and in such calm water, it’s a great family plan; children ride along in a double or take their own small kayak if they swim well.
Safety and wind
As with any sea activity: go out in the morning, check the wind (offshore wind carries you from the coast before you notice), wear a vest, take water and sunscreen, and don’t go alone. Judge the distance with the return in mind, which is always harder if the wind gets up. With common sense, it’s one of the safest, most beautiful things to do here.

Pair it up
Kayaking fits the rest of the sea plan: paddleboarding, snorkelling and, to go further, renting a boat without a licence. One of each and you won’t repeat a plan all week.
