Car hire: the most flexible
For most people it’s the best option, because southern Mallorca is best enjoyed with a car (Es Trenc, the coves, Ses Salines). If you’d rather hire locally in the village itself, in Colònia you have Autos Colonia (+34 971 656 296) and Autos Verger (+34 971 656 589).
The drive is simple and well signposted; fuel one way is around €6-8, and in Colònia parking is usually free (in blue and white lines), except the beaches at the height of the season. Book the car ahead in summer: it’s cheaper and there’s more availability.
Private transfer: comfortable, door to door
If you travel as a family, with children or lots of luggage, a private transfer is the most comfortable: the driver waits at the airport (even if the flight is delayed, with your name on a sign) and takes you straight to the door of your accommodation. Taxi: no booking out, booked back
There are taxis at the airport at any hour, on the meter (don’t accept fixed prices above it). The cost to the south is around €90. An important local heads-up: the return from Colònia is harder (there are few taxis in the village), so to get back to the airport book it in advance. Public bus: the honest truth
Let’s be honest: there’s no direct bus from the airport to Colònia. The real option is the Aerobús to central Palma + TIB 501 to Campos + transfer + TIB 517 to Colònia — in total 2.5-3.5 hours with luggage. You pay by bank card and it’s not free for tourists (the 2026 free travel is for residents only). We only recommend it if you travel very light and have plenty of time; for up-to-date timetables, the official site is tib.org.
Uber and ride-hailing
Uber works at Palma airport for the trip out to the south, but don’t count on it for the return: from Colònia there are very few cars and it’s unreliable. To get back, use a booked local taxi or a transfer.
