Why dive here
The jewel is the Cabrera archipelago, a National Park since 1991 and a marine reserve: being protected, the seabeds teem with life — big groupers, shoals of fish, barracuda, caves and walls — with excellent visibility. It’s one of the best places to dive in the whole Mediterranean, right on Colònia’s doorstep.
The dive centre
In Colònia’s port is Aventura IB (Carrer Gabriel Roca), a centre with around 20 years’ experience and PADI and SSI courses at all levels. They run try dives, trips and courses, and offer free pickup at agreed points. Their site is aventuraib.com. Book ahead in summer.
The try dive: your first time
If you’ve never dived, the try dive is the perfect way to test it: with an instructor, in calm water and with no experience needed. It can be done from age 10, so it’s a great family plan. You just need to be able to swim and be up for it; the centre provides the gear.
Diving in Cabrera
The star trip is Cabrera: you sail the ~9 miles from the port and do two dives with a break on land to eat and see the castle. As a National Park, diving is regulated and done with an authorised operator (the centre handles the permits), which guarantees well-kept seabeds full of life.
Courses and certifications
If you want to get certified or move up a level, there are PADI and SSI courses at all levels, from beginner to specialties. It’s an ideal place to certify: calm water to learn in and, as a reward, dives in a marine reserve.

When to go and what to bring
The best season runs from spring to autumn, with warmer water and good visibility (in summer you dive in a thin wetsuit). Bring a swimsuit, towel and enthusiasm; the centre provides the rest of the gear. For something gentler, combine it with snorkelling or the Cabrera excursion.
