If Caló des Moro and s’Almunia are adventure, Cala Santanyí is the easy option: a sandy beach with all services, easy to reach and perfect for a family day without lugging anything. And as a bonus, right next to it is one of Mallorca’s most famous postcards: the Es Pontàs arch. Here’s both.
- What it’s like: sandy beach, calm turquoise water, with all services.
- Services: showers, toilets, beach bars and a boardwalk for pushchairs/wheelchairs.
- Families: shallow water and everything at hand; very comfortable.
- Es Pontàs: the natural rock arch, at a viewpoint a short walk from the beach.
- Parking: car park nearby (fills up in summer); arrive early.

What Cala Santanyí is like
It’s a sandy beach with calm, turquoise water, very popular in summer precisely for its convenience: it has all services —showers, toilets, beach bars— and even a boardwalk for prams and wheelchairs, something very rare in the southeast coves. Thanks to its shallow, calm water, it’s ideal for going with small children. From Colònia it’s about 25 minutes by car; the car park is very close, but in high summer it fills up early, so arrive early.

Es Pontàs, the rock arch
And here’s the extra reason to come: Es Pontàs, a giant natural rock arch in the sea, between Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards, one of Mallorca’s most photographed sights. To see it, from the Cala Santanyí car park you follow a path on foot: it passes in front of Hotel Pinos Playa, continues along the track (paved at first, then dirt) to some sculptures, and you reach the viewpoint with Es Pontàs in front of you. It’s a short, highly recommended stroll, especially in good afternoon light.

Who it’s for (and who not)
- A comfortable beach with full services
- A family day with small kids (calm water, boardwalk)
- To see the Es Pontàs arch (the photo)
- To chain it with Llombards and Caló des Moro, next door
- You want a wild, solitary cove (it’s busy and has hotels)
- You want to avoid crowds in August (it gets very full)
- You’re after adventure or hiking (this is the easy one)
The perfect morning plan: a calm swim at Cala Santanyí and, before or after, the little walk to the Es Pontàs viewpoint for the photo. And since it’s right next to Cala Llombards and Caló des Moro, you can chain several.
Being so accessible, in July and August it gets very busy (beach and car park). Go early and, as always, respect the surroundings and take your rubbish with you.
