Just before you reach the famous Caló des Moro there’s a cove many people walk straight past: Cala s’Almunia. It doesn’t have the postcard sand, but it has something better for anyone after clear water and snorkelling: fishing huts, calm and a seabed full of life. Here’s the local lowdown.

What s’Almunia is like
s’Almunia is a small, rocky cove with very little sand, but with a different charm: its fishing huts (boat shelters) and beautiful crystal-clear water. You get into the water via the old ramps of the huts, and that rocky seabed —with caves and crevices— makes it one of the best spots in the south for snorkelling: you’ll easily spot camouflaged octopus, starfish and shoals of fish. The braver ones also jump in from the rocks (always checking first that there’s enough depth). It’s calmer and more authentic than neighbouring Caló des Moro.

Getting there & tips
You get there the same as Caló des Moro: from Colònia, about 20-25 min by car to the Cala Llombards area, park in the dirt car park and go down the staircase from Carrer des Caló des Moro. s’Almunia is just before Caló des Moro on the same path, so you can see both in one morning. Essential tip: bring water shoes (it’s rocky), plus water, food and shade, because there are no facilities. As everywhere in this area, the car park fills up very early in summer: get up early.
If you love snorkelling, this is your cove. Go early, with a calm sea and the sun still low: the water is clearer and you see the bottom better. And combine it with Caló des Moro, right next door.
Access to the s’Almunia and Caló des Moro area is regulated in summer (with restrictions and a shuttle in August). Check the latest info before going in high season, and respect the surroundings: it’s a wild cove with no bins.
