If Caló des Moro is the impossible photo, Cala Llombards —a stone’s throw away— is the cove where you can actually spend the day in comfort: sand, turquoise water, a beach bar so you don’t have to lug a cooler, and a far gentler way down. It’s one of the best in the Santanyí area for going with kids or simply keeping things easy. Here’s the practical rundown.

  • What it’s like: white-sand cove with clear water, between cliffs and pines.
  • Facilities: beach bar (sandwiches and drinks) and a wooden boardwalk almost to the shore. No showers.
  • Families: calm, shallow water; great for kids and snorkelling.
  • Parking: free car park next to the cove and a bigger one at the entrance (the Caló des Moro one).
  • Heads-up: from the viewpoint, the descent is a long, steep staircase.

What Cala Llombards is like

It’s a white-sand cove sheltered between cliffs and pines, with some of the clearest water in the south (over 10 metres of visibility, a treat for snorkelling). Unlike Caló des Moro, here there is a beach bar to eat or grab a drink, so it’s much more comfortable for a full day. Thanks to its calm, shallow water, it’s ideal for families with children. And although it’s well known, it’s usually far less crowded than the overrun Caló des Moro.

Who it’s for (and who not)

Ideal if you want…

  • A beach day with kids (calm water)
  • To eat without carrying a cooler (there’s a beach bar)
  • Snorkelling in very clear water
  • Free parking near the sand
Maybe not, if…

  • You have reduced mobility and come down via the viewpoint (staircase)
  • You need showers (there are none)
  • You’re after solitude in peak August (it fills up)

Facilities: beach bar & access

The beach bar sits by the cove and is handy for a sandwich, a drink or an ice cream without heading back to the car. It’s not fine dining —it’s a beach bar— but it does the job so you don’t have to lug a cooler. Here’s its live listing (Google rating and whether it’s open now):

On accessibility: from the lower car park there is a wooden boardwalk almost to the shore, fairly easy with a pushchair; if instead you park up at the viewpoint, you come down a long staircase (around 40 steps). There are no showers, so bring water to rinse off and to drink.

Getting there & parking

From Colònia de Sant Jordi it’s about 20 minutes by car towards Es Llombards/Santanyí. There’s free parking next to the cove that fills up as the day goes on; if it’s full, there’s a bigger car park at the entrance —the same one used by people heading to Caló des Moro—, also free, about 20 minutes’ walk away. A local tip: on Google Maps search for “Cala Llombards” or “Mirador de Cala Llombards”, because if you type just the village it takes you to the centre.

You can combine plans: park at the entrance, swim at Cala Llombards and, if you’re up for it, follow the path to Caló des Moro for the photo. Two coves in one morning.

In July and August arrive early: the car park next to the cove fills up and, although it has a beach bar, the cove is small. And as always, respect the surroundings and take your rubbish with you.

Frequently asked questions

What is Cala Llombards like?

A white-sand cove with very clear water in Santanyí, sheltered between cliffs and pines. It has a beach bar and a boardwalk almost to the shore (no showers), which makes it very comfortable for families and for snorkelling.

Is there parking at Cala Llombards?

Yes, there’s free parking next to the cove that fills up during the day, and a bigger one at the entrance (the one used for Caló des Moro), about 20 minutes’ walk away. On Google Maps search for ‘Cala Llombards’, not just the village.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, it’s one of the best in the area for families: sand, calm, clear and shallow water. From the lower car park there’s a boardwalk almost to the shore (easy with a pushchair); from the viewpoint you go down a long, steep staircase.

Are there showers or a lifeguard?

There are no showers. In high season there tends to be more service than at the neighbouring wild coves, but don’t take it for granted: bring water and keep an eye on children.

Local tip: it’s the easiest ‘postcard’ cove with kids: paid parking above, a short walk down and a beach bar. In August, go early for a space.
