When’s the best time to come to south Mallorca? It depends what you’re after, and here’s the honest rundown, season by season: when the sea is warmest, when there are fewer people and better prices, and when part of the village shuts up shop. Spoiler: for most people, the best balance is late spring and September.

The southern climate, in short
South Mallorca has a Mediterranean climate: hot dry summers and mild winters. The sea lags behind the air — slow to warm and slow to cool — so it’s nicest from June to October, peaking in temperature in late August and September. Rain, what little there is, falls mostly in autumn.

Spring (April-May)
Beautiful: green countryside, wildflowers and pleasant walking temperatures. The sea is still cool in April and warms up through May. Few people and good value; the odd very seasonal business opens from May. Ideal if you’re drawn more to hiking and calm than to hours on the beach.

Summer (June-August)
June is a local favourite: pleasant heat, a sea warm enough to swim, very long days and fewer crowds. July and August are the peak: maximum buzz and the warmest water, but also the most heat, the biggest crowds and the highest prices; Es Trenc and the car parks fill early. If you come in August, book ahead.
Autumn (September-October): the local secret
For many of us here, September is the best month: the sea is still warm, the days are good and there are far fewer people. October keeps pleasant weather and you can still swim, with the village calm; that said, towards late October some restaurants and hotels start closing for the season. It’s a great time for relaxed beaches, birds and walks.
Winter (November-March)
The south in winter is mild, quiet and authentic: a good time to walk, see flamingos at the Salobrar and experience the village without tourism. In return, many businesses close, the sea is cold for most and the days are shorter. If you’re after nature and calm rather than the beach, it has its charm.
